Documentation of Work: 2011-2012

As part Beth Kanter Visiting Scholar work plan for the Lucile and David Packard Foundation for 2011-2012, the Organizational Effectiveness Program is supporting Beth’s work with grantees with two peer learning exchanges that will provide capacity building to grantees, while helping to inform some of the content in the book and possibly have a larger field impact. Beth Kanter is teaming with K.D.Paine to research and write a book tentatively titled “Measuring the Networked Nonprofit: Using Data To Drive Social Change.” K.D Paine that will build on the themes in the Networked Nonprofit with focus on measurement practice. KD Paine is the leading for-profit expert on social media and communications measurement and ROI studies. The grantees participating in these peer learning exchanges are helping to test and develop some of the book’s frameworks and materials and possibly become case studies. The book will be published by J. Wiley in 2012.

Peer Exchange Group 1: Stealth Measurement: Focus on One Channel
This group will explore best practices for using Facebook strategically as part of an integrated communications plan based on this content (http://bit.ly/networked-nonprofits-facebook) that Beth developed working one-on-one with Packard Foundation grantees and peer workshops during her Visiting Scholar work plan 2010 and field tested in other workshops and sessions. The peer exchange will work together over six months to implement best practices and measurement techniques for documenting results and improving strategy and tactics. Participants may be a featured case study in the forthcoming book, "Measuring the Networked Nonprofit." The syllabus is here. Beth Kanter will facilitate the group.

Peer Exchange Group 2: Measuring the Networked Nonprofit: Proving Results To Improve Results
This group will field test some of the ideas and methods in the forthcoming book “Measuring the Networked Nonprofit” by Beth Kanter and KD Paine. The content will look at how Networked Nonprofits can measure and quantify the value of their social media use and improve practice. Good social media measurement is a reiterative process of strategy formation, implementation, measurement, and making changes. The participants in this group will work on a pilot measurement program or project that includes a social media strategy over six months. The syllabus is here. Beth Kanter will facilitate the group.

This wiki also includes documentation for other training and peer learning programs provided to Packard Grantees as part of Ms. Kanter's 2011-12 work plan.
